Covaxin prepared from inactivated virus can provide protection against corona virus for at least six months. This is to say of Pushkar Sharma, director-in-charge of the National Institute of Immunology (NII).
Sharma was addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Society of NII on Sunday. He said that the immune system of the vaccine remembers the virus SARS-CoV-2 and its variant of concern, which causes the corona epidemic, and when the virus enters the body, it activates and kills it immediately. Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh presided over the general meeting.
Sharma said that in times of crisis, special efforts were made in the direction of research on anti-corona vaccine. He said that the inactivated virus vaccine covaxin produces strong immunity against SARS-CoV-2 and its delta, alpha, beta and gamma variants that lasts for at least six months.
