The central government has given permission to conduct post-sunset post-mortem in hospitals with proper infrastructure.
Giving this information on Monday, sources said that this permission has been given for cases of murder, rape, decomposed bodies and suspected dishonesty besides other cases.
Sources said that with the availability of adequate infrastructure, it also aims to push for post-mortem for organ donation.
According to a report in news agency PTI, a source said, the issue of conducting post-sunset post-mortem has been investigated by a technical team. This team belonged to the Directorate General of Health Services under the Union Home Ministry. During a meeting held in this regard, it was also discussed that post-mortem is already being done at night in some institutions of the country.
An official source said, "Given the rapid progress and improvement in technology, it is possible to conduct night-time post-mortems in hospitals especially if there is availability of necessary lighting and necessary infrastructure for post-mortems." The source said that the discussion in the meeting was in favor of allowing post-sunset post-mortem in hospitals with proper infrastructure facilities.
Sources said that along with allowing this, a provision can also be made for video recording of post-mortems to be done at night. This will be done to avoid any kind of legal trouble and for future purposes. The source further said that it would be the responsibility of the hospital in-charge to ensure that such hospitals have proper arrangements for conducting post-mortems at night.
